A 21-member board sets policy for the operation of SSOCOF and makes overall decisions for the company. There are three standing committees, Finance, Operations and Damage Prevention. All committees are made up of directors and industry-affiliated participants. The Executive Committee consists of SSOCOF officers.

The Board of Directors meets bi-monthly. Committee meetings are scheduled in conjunction with board meetings and at other times as necessary. The Executive Committee meets the month prior to board meetings.

Elections are held each May at the annual membership meeting.

Board meetings
All SSOCOF board and committee meetings are open to the public and audience participation at board meetings is allowed and welcomed. To address the board during the open discussion time, complete a "Request to Speak" form and hand it to a board member before the meeting or during a break prior to open discussion. Board and Committee Meeting Purposes

• Board Meeting - Directors vote on policy and motions presented by committees. It also reviews reports on call center operations, damage prevention education, future plans and committee activities.

• Operations Committee - Members focus on issues that affect the operation of the call center such as hardware/software/mapping issues and customer service.

• Damage Prevention Committee - Members address compliance, safety and damage prevention issues as well as communications and marketing strategy.

• Finance Committee - Members focus on those financial and investment issues that affect SSOCOF’s budget and financial reporting.

• Executive Committee - Members develop the agenda for each board meeting and work on other special projects as assigned.

Becoming a director
Prior to the annual election in May, you must submit a letter on company letterhead stating your intention and your company’s willingness to endorse you as a director candidate.
