Enter Sunshine State One Call's No Bull Rodeo Challenge and you could be one of eight selected to represent Florida at the August 2008 International Locate Rodeo in Georgia.

What is the No Bull Rodeo Challenge?

It's a challenge that doesn't involve an actual rodeo, but relies on your solid locating experience. The intention of the No Bull Rodeo Challenge is to give special recognition to the profession of underground utility locating and to forge a partnership with Sunshine State One Call that promotes safety, damage prevention and on-going education.

Who can enter?

Anyone who locates underground facilities in Florida as a primary function of their job every day. You must be employed by an SSOCOF primary member or one of its locate contractors, or an owner/employee of a private locating company that is an associate member of SSOCOF.

How will winners be determined?

Two winners will be selected from each of the following divisions: power, gas, water, telecommunications. Because we're looking for the best of the best, entrants must meet the following top performers criteria:

Damages - Zero liable damages for 90 days preceding the date of entry into the No Bull Rodeo Challenge. A liable damage is defined as a damage due to an error or omission by the locate technician. Note: This to be determined by the individual company and/or utility owner operator.

Safety - Zero safety violations for 90 days preceding the date of entry into the No Bull Rodeo Challenge. Each company should use their discretion in this area.

Essay - Submit an essay using the approved space on the entry form that answers the following question: Explain why your performance represents excellence in locating and damage prevention and why you would best represent Florida’s locating community at the International Locate Rodeo.

What do the winners receive?

Each No Bull Rodeo Challenge winner will receive

• $300 cash prize

• Plaque and team shirt

• A chance to win more during the International Locate Rodeo (ILR)

• Up to $1,000 in ILR travel costs

• An invitation for two (the winner and his or her significant other) to join the Board of Directors and Staff of SSOCOF and the other No Bull Rodeo Challenge Team members for a complimentary reception and dinner at the DeBary Golf & Country Club on the evening of May 15, 2008

What is the International Locate Rodeo?

The International Utility Locate Rodeo is the preeminent event for Utility Locate Technician recognition, and will serve as the cornerstone to promote high quality and achievable industry standards." The International Locate Rodeo is held in Duluth, GA, August Official International Locate Rodeo Rules can be found at www.locaterodeo.com.

How do I enter?

All eligible locators wishing to enter the SSOCOF No Bull Rodeo Challenge Team selection contest must complete and submit an official application form and also be nominated by his or her supervisor

All No Bull Rodeo Challenge winners travel to and participate in any event associated with the International Locate Rodeo at their own risk and must release SSOCOF of any liability due to participation in that event. No Bull Rodeo Challenge winners will be required to sign a liability release.
